After starting the day in Antigua Guatemala and crossing into El Salvador at La Hachadura, I then rode to Santa Ana. Crossing into El Salvador, you notice less trash on the roadside compared to Guatemala or Mexico. My initial plan was to stop at the beachside town of Los Cobanos, about 1 hour from the border, but instead rode 90 minutes further to Santa Ana. It's a nice ride around Lake Coatepeque, good views. I checked into Hostal Las Puertas in Santa Ana, parked in the lobby, a decent heritage building. I only had a brief amount of time to explore Santa Ana in the evening and morning. Overall, it didn't strike me as a place I would want to stay longer than one night. So I didn't, left the next day. But I did eat my first baleada there, a memory (and meal) to savour.

Ride: 120 km / 3 hrs

Stay: Hostal Las Puertas / $35 / ***
